A Quick Look at Martha Siegel
I am a cello teacher working out of my Park Slope studio
“Martha’s Music Studio”, at the United Nations International
School-Queens and The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Every Summer
I teach strings and chamber music at Camp
Common Ground in Starksboro, Vermont.
www.cgcvt.org I also teach for
Musika, an organization that matches up music teachers and students
through the internet.
As a performing cellist, I work in many chamber groups and
direct my own, Brooklyn Brandenburgers, along with other string
quartets and small ensembles. I am principal cellist for the Brooklyn
Conservatory Community Orchestra.
From 1976 to 1997 I performed, toured and recorded with
Argentine singer/songwriter
Suni Paz and with Calle Strada Strasse, a
trio with English concertina, mandolin and cello. All told, I have
played cello on 23 albums! (See Discography)
Underlying my work is a strong belief in the connection between
music and community. To this end, I have produced numerous children’s
concerts, chamber music concerts and music festivals in Park Slope for
organizations ranging from local schools to the
Park Slope Food Coop.
Since 2006, I have curated a concert series at
the Old Stone House
called Zeemeeuwsic.
